ADSP-2181 Compatible DSP Core

Replaces an obsolete DSP, running its original binaries

DSP IP

Overview

Defense platforms live in decades, but the DSP inside one goes obsolete far sooner. When the part disappears the usual answer is a new DSP, a source port and a full re-qualification of the algorithm. This core skips that path entirely: it implements the genuine 24-bit ADSP-21xx instruction encoding, so object code from the original toolchain runs unmodified.

Cycle accuracy was treated as a hard requirement rather than a goal. The arithmetic units, status flags, sequencer and address generators reproduce the original timing, so sample-rate-critical signal processing and control loops behave identically. Interrupt entry masking, the secondary register bank, circular buffers and the 40-bit MAC accumulator are all modelled, and the SPORT, timer, autobuffer, BDMA and IDMA peripherals come with the core.

For verification, the regression suite passes on three independent simulators down to matching cycle counts, and synthesis is clean — no combinational loops, no optimized-away registers. Even the assembler used for the test suite was written from the published instruction manual alone. The core is pure Verilog RTL, so the same source carries from FPGA prototype to ASIC.

Engagement

How we engage

01

IP licence

Licence the verified IP as it stands. Synthesisable RTL, the verification environment and an integration guide come with it.

02

Custom development

The IP is modified or extended to your requirement. Because we design from the interface layer up, unusual requirements can be accommodated.

03

Co-development & national programmes

Joint silicon and firmware development against platform requirements, including participation in national R&D programmes. Scope and terms are agreed case by case.
